Induction Cooktop + Downdraft Questions

Hey everyone, first post so thanks in advance for any help. We are remodeling our kitchen and are between gas or induction. I see most around here try to steer people away from gas + downdraft but see less "hate" towards induction + downdraft. This has me confused. Wouldn't seared meat, for example, produce the same amount of smoke on both cooktops?
