Vent a Hood vs. Zephyr

Hi,

I have a Vent a Hood right now which I like but it's a bit noisy and not all that easy to clean. Have recently learned about the remote-controlled Zephyrs (not sure the RC aspect is all that necessary).

Thoughts? Other under cabinet over the range hoods I should be considering?

When I listened to the Zephyr and Vent a Hood in person I found that the Vent a Hood was much quieter (tested a 36" below cabinet range hood with two fans). I chose Vent a Hood because it was quieter to the Zephyr equivalent (not that it or any range hood is 'quiet'). I have problems with my hearing and the Vent a Hood sound frequency was also less annoying.

The sales guy said the newer Vent a Hoods are easier to clean. I have no idea if this is true but it's worth comparing the newer ones in terms of how they clean up to what you have. Good luck.

No lack of critics here. :)

I'm not going to suggest particular hoods either, but do suggest that you do a search on 'hoods' on this forum and allocate some time to reading about the subject. If you decide to go large (as in flow rate) then you will also need to review the MUA topics.

We just installed a 36" Zephyr Tempest a few weeks ago and love it.It is and under cabinet hood. It has an available remote but did not opt for it. There is a function that shuts it down 5 minutes after you are done cooking. It seems to be very effective yet quiet on level 2. It does go to level 6 which is noisier but does not seem to obnoxious considering the short times you would typically run at that level. Build quality seems excellent and cleaning is a breeze since the baffle filters can be placed in the dishwasher.

VaH make both "Magic Lung" and more conventional hoods, so a lot of different answers are possible. In any case, searching on their respective names in this forum and reviewing the resulting thread links may provide some insights. Few will have tried both in the same size in the same kitchen operating at the same achieved CFM, so one person's noisy might just correspond to another person's quiet.
