Can I replace oven door inner glass with metal?

Hi all, I have a 2003 kenmore 790.###### electric oven and the inner glass has many cracks. It appears that the glass is about to fall out. I cook a lot of pizza and I'm pretty sure thats the reason it cracked.
I would assume that I'm going to have that problem again after I replace the glass. Can I replace the glass with sheet metal or something else instead?

I don't know why you couldn't use sheet metal, though I don't know how the seal would work since the sheet metal is a different thickness than the glass. BTW, I don't think that a replacement glass is doomed to crack - many people have ovens much older than that without cracks - and self clean cycle gets a lot hotter than when you make pizza.
