OP here, thanks everyone for your suggestions and advice! Yes, we have ducting already in place to vent outside; it'll be a wall mount, TBD yet whether we want chimney, under-cabinet, etc. May depend on what we see within our price range. I will definitely check out all the brands you guys suggested--thanks again.

I just found a new Ventahood wall mount clearance for $500, 36 inch wall mount Eurostyle dual blowers, but extra 50% sale is over tomorrow, you have to put in code. In the advertisement it is island mount, but it is actually wall mount. Wish it was island, was ready to buy.

I'll need a 30" hood for a 30" gas stove - possibly the GE Cafe - love the knobs :) but would also consider others if they have a similar look - I have soffits that cannot be removed (boo hoo) so I'm unsure about what style hood is best to use - I could really use some direction. Do a simple hood or put it into a decorative wood cabinet? I hesitate doing something like the vent-a-hood since the soffits will remain.

In my old house there was a basic type of ss Broan that was over a 36" ss Thermador cooktop on a 9' cooktop/cabinet wall. We had a 5x7 island with the sink and DW and seating for 3 - and another cabinet wall that was 10' long with refrig/double wall ovens, cabinets, and pantry.

My new kitchen is in a townhouse and much smaller - only about 11 x 7 so it's very different but I do love the ease of the smaller kitchen!
