| For those of you that are Blue Star Range owners..... the fact that it doesn't have a self cleaning feature.... is that an issue? do you have any trouble cleaning it?
thanks

| Non self cleaning is not an issue for most, it is a nasty cycle especially in gas ranges and even though it is a huge selling feature most people do not use it. It works better and is better suited to electric ovens. |

| I don't have a Bluestar, but I wanted to chime in because I am one of the people Guadalupe mentioned who has an all gas range (Dacor) with self-cleaning who don't use it. I've used the self-cleaning once on my range, and don't plan to do so again. It has to run for HOURS, heats up the kitchen also for HOURS, smells like something is burning, and anyway, you have to prep for the self-clean by wiping out the oven anyway. Yes, my oven was spotless after the self-clean. But on another occasion, after Thanksgiving, I tried using no-fume Easy Off and the Easy-Off was easier, quicker, and didn't use so much energy. Also, there have been several reports of range's electronics buzzing out after the self-clean due to the high heat, and needing to be replaced. I would have been happier to skip the self-clean feature. There is one plus, which I'm not even sure about (Guadalupe please chime in) - that is that I have heard that insulation is better on ranges that have self-clean feature. |

| I read somewhere that the self cleaning cycle decrease the life of an appliance by around or more than 50% . |

| I don't think it's necessary. Always use a tray under something that may cook over (like pies, scalloped potatoes, spring form pans, etc) |

Cleaning is not an issue for me. I had a self cleaning electric for 3 years before the BS and never ran the cleaning cycle. It was just too much hassle. Manual cleaning, especially with the low-fume oven cleaners is not much work. The Blue Star is especially nice in that the oven floor comes out, making it much easier to scrape & scrub off the burned on pizza cheese, like from last Friday night.... |
