My suggestion is to check the manufacturer recommendations and go from there. There may be more than stacking hardware considerations. If they cut corners on the stacking, maybe there are other issues: electrical, draining, venting, etc. Did you inherit any warranties on the washer and dryer?

Could there be a bracket on the back that you can't see? After all, its in a closet.
