whirlpool 22ft. bottom freezer leaking problem

We purchased this whirlpool 22ft. bottom freezer in April2013, but did not move into our home until June,about 2 weeks ago it started leaking. It had a thick coating of ice on bottom. When I called the Appliance store, they said they had a fix for it, but would have to remove everything in the freezer. I have not called them back, but would like to know when the problem began. My old whirlpool was 18 years old and never had a problem with it. The Appliance Dealer said he wished I had called before the one year warranty expired. I checked Consumer Reports, July 14&Jan 14 and did not see anything negative. Would like to know when others starting having a problem like this. The model #GB2FHDXW007.

Well, as mentioned about Consumer Reports.

First, read their subcriber's review of the appliances as this is much better info, (especially about reliability) than "CR's Rating" on any appliance.

Second, do not use CR as your "Single Source" of info before buying an appliance. See Yelp reviews, reviews on Sites like Lowes, Sears, AJMadison~~~~~~~~~etc.

Sorry to say, but your problem is a very "COMMON ONE"
as far as reviews on the internet go!

Click the "Helpful Link" at the bottom of my post, then click "reviews" on that page, to see what problems folks had with that Fridge that bought it from Lowes.

There is also mention, (in one of those Lowes Post), on a "How to Fix It" video on UTube.

My husband fixed this problem in our JennAir (same as the whirlpool). We have the whirlpool in our garage but it hasn't had the problem yet. Search this forum and you will see many with this problem and read the fix.

I have a similar Whirlpool refrig / freezer and had the same problem early on. I had to remove everthing from the freezer so they could get at the bottom and clear out the ice. The problem was just a clogged plug preventing the draining and I had the freezer turned up to high.

Turned it back doen and haven't had a problem since!
