Whole House Vacuums

What are your thoughts on these? I lived with one a very long time ago and lugging that huge hose all over the house was harder than lugging a vacuum. I don’t know if these things have changed over the years or not.

The house we are buying has a whole house vacuum – or at least it did at one time. The house is a fixer-upper and we don’t know what works and expect most things do not. But, at least at one time it was set up for this and I’m wondering if this is something I should try and revive or just let it go.

Thanks for your input!

Jeri (who believes this is on-topic because we have to vacuum the kitchen :-)

RE: Whole House Vacuums

My parents put one in when they built a house in the early 90s. My mother has bought an upright vacuum for the cleaning person to use. I always thought it was a cool idea in principle but never in practice. You're doing more work because the hose and the unit are heavier than a standard upright. I'd say abandon in place.
