HELP! Which Size Hood Range to Choose?

Hi All! The range hood above my gas range is broken and I am going to replace it.

After shopping around online, I am having a hard time choosing a replacement hood and wanted to get some opinions.

The current (broken) hood, around which the cabinets were custom built, is 35.75 inches wide and fits snug in between the cabinets.

I have found two replacement hoods in my price range.

One is 35.75 inches wide (same as current hood) so it should fit quite well in the place of my current hood, but it's only 900 CFM.

I really want a 1000 CFM hood for that extra horsepower, but the only one I can afford is a 30 inches wide model, so it would leave about a 3 inch gap on either side between the hood and cabinet when installed.

Which one do you think would be a better choice? I think maybe I can cut up some plywood and use it to fill the gaps on either side of the smaller hood, but I'm afraid it might look ugly and I'm not sure if it would be worth the extra installation headache just for an extra 100 CFM.

What do you people think?
