A good dishwasher doesn't require "precleaning". My Miele says to scrape, not rinse, and that works great.

I don't have experience with either of the models that you mentioned. As an 8 year Miele dishwasher user (on my 2nd one purchased for looks - the old one worked great) I would rather buy a used Miele dishwasher on Craigslist (I saw some deals in my city!) than a new dishwasher of another brand.

I have the 800 series Bosch and think its great (I have not liked any dishwasher I had before this one nearly as much). Just about no issues with cleaning - works great - and a few damp items every so often don't concern me. I like not having to worry about where in the machine I put various things (which might melt if near a heating element) and the fact that it uses less energy. (P.S. I scrape only, DH scrapes and rinses despite my "admonishments"). I haven't yet cleaned the filter (3 month), and haven't needed service so can't comment on that issue.

We have had the Bosch 800 series dishwasher since early February, and are very pleased with it. We scrape, but never rinse, and everything has been spotless. The drying has not been a real issue, the noticeable water has been in recessed pot handles. I was actually surprised that it dried as well as it did, since I had read that this was a bit of an issue with it. I generally use the Eco setting, and it does great. I looked at the filter today, purely out of curiosity, and it was totally clean. It's also really quiet.

Between these two, I'd go for the Bosch.
