Fiberglass in my Food

I'm just wondering if anyone else has noticed fiberglass raining down in the interior of their oven cavity. Our Wolf AG range has had many issues. However, the one problem that I have yet to see mentioned is the potential danger of fiberglass particles being ingested in baked food. Does anyone have any experience with this or know how harmful this may be?

Thanks

Can't imagine this would be good to breath or eat.
Here is a link to a discussion that mentioned it.

Holy smokes! Ingesting fiberglass is bad, bad, bad! During demolition I didn't wear my mask while taking down a 4'x1' section of ceiling; it was just such a small bit. Big mistake! I breathed in some of the fiberglass ceiling insulation and my throat was raw for about 5 days. It was unpleasant. Exercise caution - this stuff is not good for your skin or insides.

Hi time2go, the link above refers to my situation. I wish I had the answers to your questions, because it's likely that we did ingest some fiberglass. In our family, some of us have (both very serious and just somewhat annoying) health conditions that cause G-I pain. So it's hard to know if the pain experienced after consuming a pizza that was convection-baked in our small oven (the one in which I later observed the little floating fibers) was due to foreign matter in the food or to the pre-existing conditions.

As you might imagine, seeing the fiberglass caused a good deal of worry. I tried checking online, only to read everything from potential for mild G-I distress to OMG it could kill you (paraphrasing, of course.) The latest thing I read was about cyst-like growths forming around ingested fiberglass. My stress level was already high due to the near-loss of our son about 18 mos. ago, who then had to do IV feeding for months (we didn't even use our range for the first few months we lived here.) After I finally got back to cooking for the whole family, first the porcelain flaked off (two ranges) and then I observed the fiberglass strands. I've considered asking our son's G-I specialist if any sort of scan is advisable, since I don't know if either the porcelain shards or the fiberglass strands would show up if they're still present. HIPPA makes any sort of discussion with her difficult. Since our son has not reported any out of the ordinary problems, I'm trying not to borrow trouble.

I just purchased a Wolf oven and have also noticed fiberglass inside the cavity. I am in the process of having it removed since I was told these are fiberglass pieces and there will "eventually be less and less of them with continued use". I was also told "not to be concerned as this is not harmful to humans". WHAT???? My response to them was "Would you eat food out of that oven?"

    I'll keep you posted.

YES ! Live in an apartment. Had a new-to-me Frigidaire oven installed. Only lightly used. Turned on oven and while pizza was baking noticed 2 large fiberglass tufts inside oven. One was sucked down into bottom drawer as I watched thru glass. Took out drawer and looked up towards bottom side of stove. ALL along the bottom sides of the stove, matts of fiberglass hanging down and easily viewed. As stove heats, air current sucks up air from this area into drawer and then into stove! This is possible because seal around door that leads to drawer is not tight. Able to stick butter knife right up into the stove when door is closed. PLEASE check your stove ! I am reporting this to Health Canada product safety unit. Please let me know if you have same problems.

WOW. This is scary. Add this to my (already too long) list of things to watch out for in new appliances. Off to do reading and rearch ... :-(

We have this same issue. I tried contacting the manufacture but they were not interested. I filed a report with the consumer safety commission. I would like to know if anyone else had any luck with their manufacture companies. Waiting for investigation from Consumer Safety Commission. Our oven is Frigidaire. Note: the fiberglass is from the inner intake seal. From the INSIDE of the oven.

I am extremely sick due to fiberglass insulation dust all over my house after storm Sandy in 2012. This is happening all over the world. I’ve been researching and studying about it for over six years and call every environmental group in the United States, politicians, have gone to at least 100 different doctors and only one doctor from an emergency room diagnosed me with a chronic allergy to fiberglass. Through my research, I found out that fiberglass is used in over 30,000 products including ovens and refrigerators and hairdryers. The biggest culprit is that 90% of homes are Insulated with fiberglass which is full of chemicals that are toxic. Thank yo

I have heard from people all over the country and England. It’s even put in

mulch as a filler. It’s Big Business and Lobbyists that cover up the dangers of this toxin. Join me and others if you are interested in getting this stuff banned.
