36' French Door fridge

| Hi all,
I'm trying to find a well-made and reliable FD fridge that is NOT counter depth. In fact, the deeper, the better. The Jenn-Air JFD2589KEP is at the top of my list right now. I've removed the LG models from contention because I really don't like the "Tilting Freezer Door Bin" and the GE models felt a bit too flimsy.
Does anyone have any other fridges to recommend, or any thoughts on the Jenn-Air model that I'm considering?
Thanks! |

| So... I guess there are no other deep (non-counter depth) FD refrigerators? |

Doing the same thing right now. From what I was told today, Jenn-air is it. We DO NOT want the counter depth, this is new construction and we are recessing the wall. However, I am told by the sales people that 80% of refrigerators sold are FD and that other companies will follow suit very soon. (I also dismissed the LG, even though it looks nice.) And have also dismissed anything with the curved handles. What other appliances have you decided on? Or is the refrigerator it? |

| sanborn5, Amazing how the Jenn-Air is the only (semi)good FD non-counter-depth fridge out there, isn't it? I was hoping Thermador or somebody else would make one, but so far I can't find anything that can match the Jenn-Air for looks and quality. Almost makes me want to get a bottom freezer single-door fridge, except I need the FD because of door clearance. You wouldn't know WHEN these mysterious "other companies" might be releasing new FD models, would you? As for our other appliances, only the stove is finalized right now. We're still researching everything else, but they'll all have to be SS. Stove: Wolf 36" DF DW: Miele Optima is the favorite, or a Bosch or Asko equivalent. MW: Sharp Carousel R-426HS (recommended by cook friends) or similar |

| What exactly are you looking for? I don't really think anyone thinks that highly of the JennAir's quality in anything (looks, of course, are in the eye of the beholder). I have a KA FD bottom freezer full-size and am perfectly happy with it (but I am admittedly not that hard to please so long as the product has the features I want, which this does). |

| I am looking for same, but thought the Jenn-Air only came in counter depth? I'm leaning toward LG |

| DW and I looked at the KA FDs and agreed that the quality (look and feel) just didn't agree with the rest of the kitchen's appliances. The Jenn-Air just felt more... solid. DW also _hated_ the KA handles. The Jenn-Air model we're looking at is full-depth and now we're also going to look into the new Samsung FD model because it looks really nice on the website. Anyone have any thoughts on Samsung refrigerators? |

I really think refrigerators are almost disposable today unless your spending $5,000 - $7,000.00 then it would be a sub zero or thermador. I am with you on the handles and I too am getting the Wolf 36" range. I also am getting a sharp microwave (because over 80% of the microwaves are made by sharp.) And I am getting the Bosch dishwasher. I am or was 99% sure I was getting the AG on the range because of the $2,000.00 difference in the price, but am still a little torn. I looked yesterday and I LOVE the look of the Thermador AG with the self cleaning oven, but I just haven't heard great things about it as I have the Wolf. As far as the FD Jenn-air I feel it is just as good as the KA, and better then the LG, worried about service availability from all the salespeople we have talked to. (But I also like their look.) I just keep hoping someone else will come out with the FD regular depth with the professional handles. I just hate the curved handles. I want everything to at least look similar. I haven't heard much about the samsung, but not sure I would want it. Bosch actually makes a nice looking regrigerator but not any FD models. Hoping Thermador or SZ will make a FD soon, for under $3,000. Also getting the FL Bosch washer & Dryer. I need to order by May the latest. |

| FWIW I have an Amana and I just love it. It does have the curved handles but they're stainless and honestly now that everything's in place I don't even notice them. Since they're thick they're also comfortable to grab. Is Amana made by GE? The interior constriction certainly doesn't appear flimsy to me. The glass shelves are easy to clean, adjustable & they pull out with no trouble so stuff doesn't get lost. And I had no idea just how handy that full fridge width "chef's pantry" drawer would be. Mind you, I just wanted the least expensive, reasonably reliable French door fridge so I wasn't too picky (spent the bulk of the appliance budget on the range) but this fridge has definitely done what I needed it to do. | The Kitchen Aid / Amana / Jenn Air are all made in the same factory. They are identical except for the door skin and handles. Any FD fridge you see with that little pivoting flap below the seal on the left door is part of that family. |

| superbad - I agree, with the addition of Maytag refrigerators. The main difference between all those models that I've found in my research has been the service and support. The Jenn-Air fridges in my area are better in that regard than KA or Amana, if only because the dealer we'd be purchasing from has had great reviews for their support. And, to keep everyone updated, I tried to go see the Samsung today but neither the Samsung store nor the nearest Best Buy had it on the floor. I'll have to try again this weekend somewhere else. |

| I have a Kenmore Elite FD 36" deep fridge, which I purchased 2.5 years ago--love it!! It's amazing. My favorite feature is the faux-stainless finish. It looks like stainless, but isn't, so it doesn't show fingerprints like stainless would (I believe they call it 'satin finish', but I'm not certain). I would HIGHLY recommend this refrigerator. I like the outside-the-door water dispenser, love the huge pull-out bin which is terrific for serving platters, and couldn't live without the extra see-through, tilt-out veggie and fruit places on the front of the produce drawers (great for keeping apples--which cause other fruits to ripen too quickly--separate, etc). I researched for 3 years before purchasing this appliance; I tend to keep them forever once I make a decision (this refrigerator replaced the 15-year old Amana side-by-side I bought new when my daughter was just a baby, and am now looking to replace my 17-year old Sharp microwave which died suddenly after a good, long life). I'm telling you, if I am happy with this refrigerator, you will be, too. |

| lisarose88 -- It's so nice to hear from someone who is happy with their fridge! The one you describe though won't work for us since we don't want in-door water dispensers and need the stainless to match the rest of the stainless appliances. Although maybe I should go back and re-look at the Kenmore FDs... And I thought this would be easy after all the agony we went through with the stove! |

| I have the deep FD KA with water in the door but no ice. I wasn't that excited by the tilt-forward freezer door but in practice you have to crouch down and pull in order for it to tilt and not just slide open, so in practice for me it almost never tilts (and it surprises me when it does.) After having a side by side with ice and water in the door and constantly feeling cramped I love the space in my fridge. I'm not excited by the door handles but in balance with how much space there is I really don't care. There don't seem to be many options if you're trying to maximize space and utility - I wonder if you've got to make the choice between having the outside have the right handles or having something that actually is well-designed in terms of inside space. I'm with Lisarose in recommending it. |

Geekman, sounds like you guys are looking for exactly what we are looking for. SS/FD NOT counter depth, I want water & Ice INSIDE not outside on the door. Since getting on this board (which I LOVE) I now know that every appliance out there is made by practically the same manufactures. Someone is always buying someone, MY RANGE, was my most important decision. As I said 99% Wolf is it (36") 99% Bosch Dishwasher. They all clean, noise level important. I have had two Maytag refrigerators and the one I have now have had serviced twice in 5 years. All my food on the left side/SxS freezes, so now I just keep everything toward the right. FUN!!! So Jenn-air? KA,Amana, they all work hopefully, so THE LOOKS have it. Handel to match rest of the kitchen. Let us know how your samsung search goes. |

| I am very happy with my LG and the price was much better. It ranks third in French door frigs on consumer reports website. Above poster said he eliminated it because the freezer tilted out but mine pulls out. I have the one with ice no water on the inside. |

Lisarose, wondering who made your Kenmore, since it is 2+yo. The one I looked at today I was told is LG. Geekman, I also looked at an LG FD which did NOT tilt out. But I sort of liked that. Can you guys point out to me why I might NOT like it that I haven't thought about? Thanks - running at 48 degrees in the ancient yellow, yes, fellow Average Josephinas, yellow GE - and getting a little anxious about this decision! Melanie J |
