does this hood installation diagram make sense?

Trying to stay below the 400 cfm, using a Bosch 36" induction top, thinking of this vent. This diagram is from the installation diagram. The kitchen construction will be such that the vent could go straight up. Why does this show the right angle turns?

The hood is the Bosch-DKE9365AUC. I've been reading about ventilation for a while now, but just got this far into the gory details for the first time.

I think that they are just showing two options for installation, not restricting you from going straight up.

Oh, thanks-- I was hoping that was the case, because why would straight up NOT be an option? But I didn't want to assume anything and get an unpleasant surprise later. This was probably a stupid question, but thanks for answering!
