 o
shredder for home use

Posted by PaulSmth (My Page) on

I need a small shredder for home use... I would say for small amounts of paper.

Any suggestions on brands or models that might last at least for a month or two.

Thanks

I've got a Black and Decker that hangs on the wall from Menards. Under $20. Lasted for six months already and I use it once a week for about ten minutes.

I have a Fellowes cross shredder that I purchased from Costco in 2001. It's a bit bigger than a waste basket. It gets daily use (we run a business out of our home) and is still going strong. I oil it with a bit of sewing machine oil every six months or so.

I have a Fellowes that I keep on top of a waste basket under my desk ahd shred directly into the waste basket. It's been used a lot and I've had it at least 10 years---probably more like 10-15 years. I bought it at an office supply store (i.e., Office Depot, Office Max, or Staples).

Our Fellowes PS80C-2 cross-cut is a real work-horse. I see there is one on eBay for modest $$. I think there is a newer model now.

Here is a link that might be useful: Fellowes crosscut shredder

My husband and I have an Omnitech that we purchased during Black Friday two years ago at Staples for a song. It is listed as a 15 sheet shredder. Love it and use it all the time.

After watching Argo - go for the crosscut - ours is an old Fellows - I used to keep in the kitchen but moved it to an extra bedroom.

I looked at all the shredders on the Office Depot website and finally settled on a Fellows HD-10C crosscut. It had mostly positive reviews and was the right price at 149.

Used it today with no problems. You have to empty the basket fairly often but we really don't have that much to shred after this initial batch.

Thanks for getting me started in the right direction.

"Shreds up to 10 sheets per pass into 0.16" x 2" pieces"

Still a pretty coarse cut.
