 o
console humidifier tanks not emptying

my sears console humidifier has worked just fine for years, and all at once the bottles aren't releasing water--I noticed it had been running continuously while the "fill" light had never come one. Checked and sure enough, the tanks are full of water. I looked at the stopper mechanism and it seems to be as it always was. If you turn the humidstat low enough, it turns off, so it's not that the house is actually humid (of course my first clue was when the cats start flinching away from the static zap). Any suggestions on how to fix it? Everything else is in good shape, so I hate to buy a new one.
