Oh, dear! Did you check your manual? This is an induction zone, right? Most induction is supposed to shut itself off under certain conditions, such as if it overheats, if there's a boilover, etc., etc. Even if there was no obvious cause, there could have been something that fooled the sensor. Did you accidentally set a timer?

Have you tried again once the whole cooktop hadn't been used for awhile? Have you cleaned it since? Have you tried a different pot with something else in it?

For your sake, I'm hoping it's a case of the unit mysteriously working as it's supposed to.

Thanks for the words of encouragement, plllog. I'm pretty bummed about this one. I'm so sick of this entire kitchen thing. I "finished" last year but there is still a lot left to do - mainly because I didn't plan on doing it. Just needed to replace the cooktop, which turned into something much larger because old is no longer the norm and nothing new fit what was in my kitchen. I'll check the manual. I think you may have something there though - maybe something tripped the sensor. THANKS! Hopefully there is a way to fix it without a service call.

I'm sorry to hear about your cooktop. I've been thinking about switching from my standard electric to an induction (if I can convince my DH or it, that is!) Let's hope you will find that it works as it's supposed to and that it will be easily reset! Either way, keep us posted!

You might try turning off the circuit breaker for a few minutes and then resetting it. Just in case their board electronics are finicky about electricity. Might work, probably won't, but its worth a go.
