| We have a large walk-in pantry with an upright freezer for larger quantities of meat, extra bulk spices and other bulk goods. We currently have a Frigidaire 20 cu.ft upright that is too loud and actually 'sings' after you close the door. It's also a tad bit large...
We need advice on the quietest, energy star compliant, upright freezer in the 16 to 18 cu.ft. range. GW to the rescue??? |

It's the "silent" bit that is holding people back from replying. You can find 16 cubic foot freezers all day long that will work just fine. None of them will be silent. Most won't even really be "quiet". They all will make some noise that someone somewhere will find objectionable. It will be magnified in a small enclosed environment like a pantry. Especially if there isn't sufficient ventilation and the motor has to work extra hard.

"They all will make some noise that someone somewhere will find objectionable" Exactly ! The only silent fridge is one that's unplugged.

The 24" wide Liebherr models are as quiet as you can get. Visit a retail dealer or a distributor showroom and listen to one run. The noise level is almost imperceptable.

Good advice about listening to one run. Wasn't that a Liebherr that was "Doing the WaH WaH Watusi" according to a poster here in GW, and as I recall another poster danced in and said theirs made the same sound? Gary

Thank you, everyone! Maybe "silent" is over-optimistic. :-) But ours was LOUD! We went back tonight though, and it quieted down. I think that it was running high to cool down. It's quieter now, and we don't hear it at all when the pantry door is closed.

Most upright freezers that most people find "affordable" are not engineered and built to exacting standards , so will be louderr than a built in that costs thousands of dollars.

ICF, would you mind telling me which Frigidaire freezer you have? We were planning on getting one to put in (yes) our laundry room but noise is a definite concern.... Thanks.

We have the FKFH21F7HW. Get's pretty decent reviews on AJ Madison (3.9 out of 5). Attached is the official product page.
