| Hi all,
So I'm debating between these two fridges... Does anyone have an opinion on them? Both are counter depth french door fridges. I'm leaning towards the Kitchen Aid, I can pretty much get them for roughly the same price. The only thing that concerns me is that I've heard that KitchenAid can be noisy. As for Samsung, I think they're pretty new to the fridge market, so I haven't heard too much about them.

Thanks.

I, just got the cd french door samsung, 238aars. Was going to get the ka, but decided on the Samsung. We love it. My husband, think,s it is built really well. It is so quiet that I, have to look to see if it is still running. We had a ge, home to but thought it was made cheap. We, paid $2345.00 with tax. sharaz

We nearly picked a different Samsung model over KA. We felt the KA series and the very similar Maytag and Amana series didn't feel like it would hold up. There are reviews on GW that mention this. I also highly recommend looking elsewhere besides Sears because their prices are so much more than AJ Madison for the same KA model among others. If you are interested in the KA, take a look at the sister lines, Maytag and Amana. Very similar frigs but better prices. Good Luck!

Thanks for the responses. I'll take a close look at the Samsung. The main reason for going with the KitchenAid is that our dishwasher is going to be a KitchenAid, so we wanted them to match if possible. The prices at Sears are pretty reasonble when you go in and negotiate with someone. You can get around 1/3 off whatever their list prices are.

Fishing, I just re-did all my appliances and got the Samsung French door fridge and a KA KUDE60 and the designs match beautifully. Both with the little blue lights, similar curved handles. I LOVE both the Samsung fridge and KA dishwasher. Don't be afraid to mix brands.

I second the advice to look at other sources than Sears. I see that you are in Canada, and I am in the states, so I don't know if what I have found out about the Sears pricing applies or not, but here is what I have found about the Samsung counter depth: The Samsung website says the list price is $2900. Sears says the list price is $3400! Lowes and Best Buy agree with the Samsung price. Lowe's has an exclusive with Samsung on a 2nd ice maker in the bottom freezer. It can be turned off separately from the top in-the-door ice maker. It takes up a bit of space in the freezer (and freezer space is certainly at a premium!), but we have decided that we want the Lowe's version. People that have bought this fridge generally really like it, but the small ice container is a complaint. The Lowe's salseman told us that they should have 10% off for Presidents Day (I suppose not in Canada!) and you can get another 10% off with a coupon at the Lowe's moving website (google it, and you don't HAVE to be moving). We are also getting a Kitchenaid dishwasher (note that Sears has higher list price on these as well, by $50 to $90) and I think the stainless on the Kitchenaid is a bit brighter than the Samsung, but I'm not going to let that change my decision. I want to get the best appliance in each category (at my budget), and the Samsung fridge gets great reviews. I plan to hang a hand towel on the dishwasher bar to hopefully hid the differences some, and my dishwasher is not that close to my fridge. I plan to get the new Electrolux slide-in induction range and the GE Advantium over-the-range micro/speed cook, so I am all over the place with appliance brands. Oh well.

Bevbran/Pudgy, that's good advice. We wanted to match at least two of the appliances, but you're both right, just go with what's the best. Pudgy, we're going with the Electrolux range too. I think the Electrolux range and KA dishwasher are pretty firm, but the fridge is between the KA and the Samsung. People seem to really like the Samsung so far, so I may go with that. The good thing with Sears is that if we don't like the fridge, we have 90 days to return it and get another one (no re-stocking fee if you get another fridge with them). So I guess we could go with one, try it out and if it's no good, try out the other. Don't really want to do that, so I'd like to get it right the first time. Pudgy, up here in Toronto, Canada there aren't too many good appliances places. Sears, Tasco, The Brick, Appliance Canada are a few. Basically what I did was go to a few places and get the lowest price they would give. I took that price to Sears and they pricematched + 10% of the difference. After going back to other stores, they said they couldn't beat the Sears price, so it seems Sears is my best bet. The KA fridge that I'm looking at is listed from 3700 to 3900 at sears. I can get it for around 2600 plus change which other places couldn't match. The Samsung is a bit less. Maybe around $2400-2500 down from a list price of high 3k's. Also with Sears I get all these Sears points which add up to $300+ dollars which I can use on those overpriced pedestals for my W&D, it seems like Sears is the way to go.

I've been having the same dilemma but I just solved it. Take a look at the samsumg.com website and search for rfg237aars. Click on the photo of the open fridge. See how the outside water dispenser uses up the door storage. For me, that decided it. I don't want a dispenser and need storage. Samsung makes a great frig, especially if you want an outside dispenser. Samsung has won the best fridge in J.d. Power ratings for a few years in a row, they claim.

fishing13, try to negotiate at Futureshop for the Samsung 237. I got it down to $2370 back in Novemeber in Oakville, which was almost $1000 less than Sears list price. In general, if Futureshop carries it, I think you can get the cheapest price there. Next best is Sears with a pricematch. Tasco/Caplans/Appliance Canada are all pretty much equal and only recommended for the higher end appliances that the big box stores don't carry.
