My dishwasher has alwaya cleaned the dishes very well. All of a sudden that is no longer the case. I know I will have to get a repairman, but I wanted to know what your thoghts are on what could be wrong. The EDW is about 3 years old.

Even if you haven't changed detergents, the detergent formula itself may have changed. Many are going phosphate-free which causes decreased performance.

I did start using Cascade with baking soda. No cange in eating habits. Will run DW and check water temp. I will stay in kitchen and listen for pump pumping out water. Thanks for these ideas.

You didn't mention brand but if you have filters check/clean them.
If you don't have filters check where your drain hose connects to the air gap or disposer. Many times if the drain hose is clogged it is the reason for poor wash ability.

Check the spray arms to see if they are clear.
Try all this before calling for service.

The Cascade with Baking Soda in the white bottle is phosphate free. I would get a box of Cascade Complete powder and try that and see if the cleaning doesn't return back to normal.

I did try the new Finish in its own dispenser that hangs in the dishwasher rack and dispenses itself for 12 washes. It is phosphate free but has cleaned very well but I have soft water. Wal Mart had them reduced from about $10 to $5, otherwise I would never have tried it. Not sure I will use it all the time. Dispenser takes up some space in the top rack but was worth a try.
