Thermador Drawer Vent Hood installation

Question for Thermador Drawer Vent Hood owners...

Do you vent yours straight up through the ceiling directly above your cooktop?

I have tried asking Thermador several times, with no satisfaction, how far from the back wall should the hole for the vent be cut in the ceiling? They keep sending me the pdf file for installation which only shows the vent going 90 degrees into the wall behind the vent and then up through a hole inbetween the walls or directly outside. My retailer and their distributor say it is possible to vent straight up, but there are no measurements available anywhere to know where to cut this hole.

Most likely you would need to cut the hole where you want it in the top of the assembly and cover the hole in the back that you aren't using with sheet metal. Your HVAC specialist should be helping you with this. The hole in the top would need an adapter plate to form a collar. You would need to plan the top hole so that it falls between joists. It might also have location limitations depending on the hood design. You would pretty much have to have the unit on site to know for sure what to do.

How does one locate a HVAC specialist? I live in Houston and have contacted several HVAC companies. So far, none do vent hoods.
