Kenmore 1325 Dishwasher - Latch problem!!

Posted by Jen16 (My Page) on

I have a 2 week old Kenmore dishwasher and the door latch failed (stuck in locked position) while the door was open. I think it may have happened because the start button was pushed before the door was completely closed, but I'm not sure. Either way, even a hard reset didn't fix the problem. It's under warranty, and I have a replacement latch on order (Whirlpool P#W10380262)...so in the meantime, I took the door apart and was able to pop the latch back open and things seem to be working for the time being.

I am wondering if the replacement part will be any different (it is a different part number, but the pictures online looked identical), or is this a design flaw and I should ditch the Kenmore completely and find something else?

Thanks for any advice.

Far as I would suspect, the latch is mechanical, not electric/locking or related to operation of the start button. Your case is one of those "statistical" failures that may occur among the thousands of machines produced. Have it repaired and carry on. :-)
