Blue Star Ignitor Issues (not dead horse)

Posted by lolanose (My Page) on

I have read the postings on the BlueStar ignitor/ignition module, trying to resolve my own unit's problems. Most of the ceramic ignitors are cracked (due to cleaning), and I am unsure if the ignitor module is functioning properly as I use a match to turn on the burners now. Some just click away when the gas on despite being lit, while others light up just fine.

I called Blue Star to try to get the wiring harness and ceramic ignitors, but they told me that my unit was too old and that they no longer carried the parts. I guess I have the old version, prior to the "upgrade." They directed me to Signature Marketing, out of New Jersey, but I have yet to call them.

I would like to just retrofit both the ignitor module as well as all of the ceramic sparkers. I am handy and unfraid of both plumbing and electrics. Oh yeah, and it sounds like the convection fan has thrown a bearing -- how do you replace that?

Any suggestions or comments would be very welcome before I take a hatchet to the damn thing.

Interesting. I wonder what's changed. I haven't replaced an ignitor, but I thought they just have a relatively short wire with a spade connection to the wire from the module.

I had to get a new oven thermostat and replace it over the holidays. I've been meaning to post about what was involved in replacing it.

How old is your range?
