We just purchased a DCS gas range (RGU-366-L). Per the manual, the sump area should be cleaned with a mild detergent. I have found this method ineffective. I assume the warnings regarding harsher cleansers are not really warranted but would appreciate advice from other DCS owners before venturing into unknown territory. Thanks.

By the sump area do you mean the cooktop around the burners? I use either Fantastic or if necessary Barkeepers Friend.

Yes the area around the burners. Thanks for your advice. I take it there are no ill effects using Barkeeepers Friend..

Barkeepers Friend is terrific - it's great on stainless steel. I think it can't be used on bronze or nickel finishes.
