Miele LaPerla out of Box vs new Excella vs new Optima

Hi! My 3 yo ASKO dishwasher died in less than 6 months after I moved into my new home. Customer service for ASKO is horrible and my husband and I decided to just buy a new dishwasher as the cost to fix would be >$500 and they could not give us a time line as to when they could obtain the part that needs to be replaced (it has been 5 months since it went down and we have been calling EVERY week with no results.

Based on the reviews here I was planning on replacing it with a Miele DW. There was a La Perla that was at our local store which we were told was out of the box because another La Perla had come without the door handle and they had to remove it to replace the door handle for the customer. The toe kick was missing as well, however we were told they would replace the toe kick and the regular Miele waranty would still apply since it was essentially a new DW. The cost would be $500 less the list price since it was out of the box. My question is, "Is it safe to buy this out of the box DW or would I be better off getting in Excella or Optima new and in the box?" I would rather pay a little more than have to go through the ordeal of fixing a DW again, but I certainly would love to get a good deal if I can.

I am a new homeowner and have no experiences buying things out of the box or a DW for that matter so any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. :)

Well, if you believe the Miele folks (and get good vibes) that it is new, and the parts are coming, .. why not?

These are exspensive dws to begin with, so a little off of the top would be a good deal.

    Still check prices elsewhere though.

I bought an Optima floor model that was used for showroom demos, and I've had no probs thus far.

    Good luck.

Sounds like a good deal - as long as you get the full warranty.

If it's covered by the full warranty, and you get good vibes from the dealer, I'd go for it without hesitation. Good luck on an awesome deal!

And don't forget that some credit cards still offer an extra year's warranty, too. Good luck!

Thanks so much for your input!!! They told us we would get the full waranty so I think we are going to go for it. We'll probably go look at it one more time just to make aure there aren't any glaring problems.

One thing I would ask when I go since it doesn't seem to be addressed: does the discount on the La Perla, which is top of the line, make it less than their best price on the in-box Optima?

I have the Optima, as do many here, and it's just great. I'm sure the LaPerla is superlative but it has stuff on it that I just don't need (though you might, which is a different story).

So unless it turns out to be less than the best price for the Optima, I'd go with that in-box and no questions.

I bought a Laperla(II for you americans) direct from Miele Canada. It had a nick on the door handle but since I was taking the door off to put on a custom door myself, I was not bothered in the slightest...
I got a crazy deal however. I paid $1800CAD(~$1600USD) when the retail is ~$3100CAD with the standard Miele warranty (plus 1 year with my amex card)...
I love it...it's just so awesome...one of the things I really love about it besides the extreme quietness and cleaning ability(my wife can't get over how clean the stuff is that comes out with no crud ever) is the drying plus funtion that opens the door at the end of the drying cycle to help drying even more...really works good and is just another cool function that makes you appreciate the Germans...

we just purchased the la perla yesterday. i went through the machine with a fine toothcomb. there was one small scratch in the bottom right hand corner of the door which you can't see when you stand more than 1 foot away. the cost of the la perla ended up being $100 less than an optima fresh out of the box and we were given a 2 year warranty. (1 year miele DW + 1 year for having an authorized installer) my husband really liked the pop open drying function and the fact that it had 2 vents instead of one.

we asked the sales person which she would get since we were concerned about the out of the box issue. she said since she knew the history of the laperla we were looking at, she would take the la perla. as the prices were about the same we decided to go with the la perla. here's hoping it doesn't break down like my ASKO. ;)
