Kitchenaid SxS fridge KSRV22: long

We bought this item about 18 months ago and it worked flawlessly for our tenants. It was chosen because it gave the most cubic feet for the space we have. I've also had really good experiences with Kitchenaid dishwashers. So, ok, we move in part-time about 6 months ago. We began having problems with the ice maker and in-door water (an important item for especially the spouse to have, but I use it too.) So we called for repair under warranty. The guy removed a small plastic door or flap that covered the teeth of the ice maker. He said it was a design flaw and just to leave the flap off, because that was the factory fix for this issue.
Fast-forward to now. We arrive where we were 4 months ago, having left the fridge off after cleaning it. There was some mold, so we cleaned it and turned it on. Nothing! No cold. The lights came on so there was clearly juice to it. Turned off, then on again the breaker. Still nothing.
Called Kitchenaid again, paid for extended warranty because we fear repair would not be cheap. Man comes, examines it, and says that we need a "specialist" and some parts need to be ordered. These should come next week, a good week + after they were ordered. Okay, so we'll have had no fridge for a minimum of 2 weeks by the time it is repaired. This is really hard! It seems crazy in NYC where you can get everything overnight, that it would take them that long to simply get hold of the parts. So this thing is a dog--two repairs (major) in 18 months. Who else might have this model, and has it tormented you?
Our Icon in the house has worked for 9 years with no repair. Wish i could have gotten it again, but it was too large.
