Search help for range/oven with grill?

Hey, everybody! Long time lurker, first time poster. :)

First, massive apologies if this is a repeat. I can't find my old post and wonder if I forgot to actually submit it!

Second...

I've been searching without a lot of luck for information on *indoor* cooktops with grills. Mostly I end up on THS and web pages about outdoor gas grills. :)

Can you pretty please help me?

I am hoping to find a good option for a 36" or 40" 4 burner/grill combo. Something I didn't even know existed until last week!

I've spent HOURS trying to do research. Trying to identify all the manufacturers and models of indoor cooktops with grills and I've got Bluestar, Wolf, GE Monogram on my list, and that's it.

There are more, right? But "Indoor grill" or "grill cooktop" etc. etc. are not doing the trick on Google or THS.

I'm also looking for definitive info about ventilation. Again, GoogleÃ¯Â¿Â½ÃÂ is not being my friend!

I'd be sooo grateful if you could help me out withÃ¢ÂÂ¦

the names of manufacturers/models
any specialized terminology
and links you have handy that you'd recommend for good info

Hopefully with your help, I can search with better, more specific keywords, and actually find what I need to make a decision!

PS - The picture is of our circa 1740s rowhouse, and the single-story "addition" made from an old storage shed in the 1960s! We are about to gut the badly DIY'd addition and create an open kitchen/dining room. This is the first property we've ever owned and the first renovation we've ever spearheaded. I'm terrified, hah. Hence my gratitude in advance for ANY help you can give me :)

Do you want a cooktop, a rangetop or a range? They are three very distinct creatures. Correct terminology is important.

A cooktop sits on your counter and has the controls on the surface, in the place of where another burner would be. It drops in to your counter. It does not have an oven.

A range includes both a stove (burners, grill, griddle, whatever) and an oven below.

A rangetop is a range without the oven below. It is like a cooktop except that it is built into the front of the counter and the controls are in front. It is literally the range with the oven absent.

Ranges and rangetops are available with grills from all the manufacturers that you name and more, including Capital. I am not sure about whether cooktops have grills since I never considered getting a cooktop.

I have a 36" Blue Star range with a grill. I am really happy with it.

Using the right terms should make your google search easier.

nycbluedevil, now you can see why I need help so badly! I've never bought an oven, stove, range OR cooktop in my life, clearly.

I want a range --a stove top and integrated oven. That's the only way I'll have enough room left for countertops in my house :)

You said there are other makers like Capital? Haven't run across them yet.

Since you are completely remaking the addition, you have the ability to incorporate proper overhead venting for a grill. It needs a lot more cubic feet per minute (CFM) than a regular range. Even a high BTU range require more ventilation than a regular consumer grade range like a simple Maytag. Be sure to check with your local building codes office about makeup air (MUA) as that is now being required by the currently adopted building codes. You'll have to opportunity to address all of these issues since what you're doing is essentially a new build for an old building.

All of that goes hand in hand with choosing an indoor grill. They are quite smoky in operation.

Sorry I forgot to answer your ventilation question. Two good choicest are Modernaire and the hoods sold by Blue Star. I have a Modernaire. Pricey, but I love it.

GD is absolutely right about the ventilation issues.

By the way, I remember your old post because of the photo. Nice house.
