Viking 6 year old floor model

We are looking at a 6 year old viking 36inch duel fuel black range model VDSC5364 and are not sure what a good price is for it. Viking says it is no longer under warranty but the store says we would get a 3 year viking warranty. It has 4 burners and a griddle and looks great, but has been around 6 years on the floor. They are offering $5299. for it and we are not sure whether that is good or not. Anyone own this model or know what a good price would be for this. It has verisimmer burners, 3 oven racks non of which are truglide ones and the oven is a 4.2 cu with self cleaning

There is a lot of viking bashing on this forum, so you may get negative comments. (Keep in mind that many people that comment have never owned one) With that being said, I had a viking of aprox the same vintage as that one you are looking at. I really enjoyed it, and had no quality issues with it. It worked as promised, but mine also was not shuffled around a showroom floor for 6 years, it was new in a box.

As for the warranty, I suspect it is a 3rd party warranty, not one by viking range corp. Personally I don't like 3rd party warranties as much as factory, but that is only a gut feeling, not based on any actual experience.

As for price, I think it sounds a little high to me for something that has been sitting around that long. Pricing varies by region, but if I recall correctly at that time you could get a 36" in buffalo NY for about $5500 (in stainless) or so. It may have even been $5900, but even at that, your price doesn't seem discounted enough.

You will have a lot of people here reccommend a Bluestar or Capital Culanarian. It is actually good advise. You could probably find a 36 inch model on ebay if you look long enough for the same price or better. One member on here (deegeaux) got a 36" culanarian brand new with a slightly damaged box for a good deal. He will usually chime into these threads.

How close do you live to the canadian border? At times you can find a 36" bluestar RCS at costco for a bit over 3,000. It is the "entry level" bluestar, but it will still give you much better performance than the viking. The bluestar RNB is their topline model, which from a performance perspective will blow away the viking. I now have a 48" Blustar RNB, and would not even consider a viking unless for some reason Bluestars were no longer available, or unless viking decided to come out with a range to compete in the club where currently there are only 3 members, Bluestar, Capital Culanarian, and American Range. The american range has not seemed to grip the hearts of consumers yet, but they are the newest member (bluestar invented the niche) and I don't think it has been marketed as well. I do believe that the AR may be the best priced of the 3 however.

If you are still set on the viking, I would try really hard to hammer the price down.

Good luck.

I just purchased a 6 year old Wolf that was also a floor model (60 inch DF). I was originally quoted 30% off, but i asked for more based upon the fact that they were giving me the discount off of todays price, not the price this stove was six years ago. I ended up getting it for a bit under $9000. I dont know how that compares to your range, but it ended up being close to a 40% discount.

Mine came with a 2 year Wolf warranty, and I purchased an extended warranty. Wolf has been great and replaced/repaired everything that needed it. I would make sure that the warranty is excellent as there will be things that need fixing.

I agree that the Viking (and Wolf) haters on this forum don't seem to own one. I love my Wolf, and feel that it is as good as new.

If Viking is saying no warranty, I would assume no warranty unless you get it in writing signed by the dealer.

For that amount of money I would forget the Viking. Go to the Bluestar website and find when the next road show event will be nearby. You owe it to yourself to both see the size of the oven, the incredible performance of the broiler and RNB burners, and the options you can select for the layout. I would NEVER buy a Viking for what I could buy a Bluestar RNB for. And yes, I am biased towards them since I own one.

Breadandsuch: that sounds like an amazing price for a 60" DF wolf. In my area wolf is by a significant margin more expensive than all the other brands. 60" DF is close to 15k in my parts.

Wolf is also the best made of the professional ranges and arguably the most reliable with best support network. It and viking also have the best brand recognition and likely best resale. Those are the wolf advantages. I would still take my bs tho. If I was as talented as paul simon I would write a song "please don't take my bluestar away" :)

Mojo: that is the most biased post I think I have ever seen you write! :) I do agree with your post 110% tho, the OP owes it to themselves to at least look into the BS and CC and even the AR.

Another note to the original poster: if you like the looks of the viking, you will probably also like the looks of the BS. They look so similar that they could be cousins. The big difference being the BS has a more industrial looking stovetop.

Thank you all for your very informative posts. We had never even thought about the price of the Viking being less 6 years ago...don't know why, we just didn't and that was a big eye opener as to the trustability of the store we are dealing with. We are passing on this Viking and will give the Bluestar a look. We had seen the American and liked it but I am not thrilled with trying to clean a stainless steel range top and that is what they come with. I must say that this is the very best forum I have been led to for information and I, again, thank you all for your posts. Wolf is also on are lists and I had never heard of Capital Culanarian but shall research it also.

doesn't sound like such a "good" price to me.

Maresart: are you sure the american range you were looking at was the open burner? I don't think the open burner model has all the stainless up top that you mention, but I am not saying that with certainty, and that's why I am asking.
