Im sure you could but you are paying extra for a chimney style hood and then only using the bottom portion of it. Why not look for a under cabinet style hood so you arent paying for the chimney duct work ?

Anyways, I would get a copy of the installation manual and just run through the dimensions and compare them to the cabinet you will be mounting under.

Another option would be to remove the cabinet and just do a tile backsplash, then use the whole chimney hood. You will be loosing most of the space in the cabinet to handle ducting anyways so it wont be serving much purpose.

Unfortunately I cannot seem to find this style under cabinet hood with baffle filters and good cfm.
I was thinking about taking off cabinet, but the holes from screws holding cabinets on the sides would be visible, and it would bother me and my wife.

i understand. well, check the dimensions and make sure you have enough cabinet space, then do it.

Not sure of your cabinet layout but if you did remove it you could always use wood filler and match the stain or paint, or even install new side panels
