They want it no more that 3 inches from the ground so it won't hit the back of the range. The recessed area on the left side is there to run the gas up to the range. If you put the outlet in the recessed area, the plug may stick out too far to let the gas line fit in there as well and still get the back flush to the wall. I put mine below 3 inches closer to the right side so there would be no interference.

So the plug should be located under the range, not behind it ?
If I were to lay down on floor, I would see the plug under the fridge, which means it can be located anywhere from left to right, as long as it's no higher than 3'' off the floor ?

As Barry says the recessed channel is dedicated for the gas line. Mounting a plug receptacle there might interfere with pushing the range all the way tight against the wall.
Yes M4rtin, if I lay on the floor, I can see the receptacle. I mounted mine horizontally, just above the bottom framing plate, towards the right side, so not to interfere with gas line or hook up, which is to the left. (facing range)

Sorry I wasn't clear, I did as ctycdm, I mounted mine where you would normally have baseboard ( I didn't run baseboard behind the range. Yes you can see the electric plug if you lie down on the floor - it is to the right side, facing the front). You can put it anywhere on the rear wall below 3 inches, but I would keep away from the gas line since your shutoff will likely be below the range as well - assuming you run your gas up from the floor. While I like my BS, I think the installation instructions are pretty meager, and the manual for the stove is not all that thorough either, IIRC, it does not mention the rolling oven rack at all.

Ok I see it now. You are right. Looks like I will have to ask electrician to put the plug side way at the bottom of the wall. Thank you all. This board has been very helpful.

FWIW, we had already had the outlets in place prior to the range selection and it was considerably up from the floor with no good way to move it. So we put in a recessed outlet like for a flat screen tv etc and it worked just fine.
