Seeking opinions on copyrighted book

While I realize that everybody has their own opinion and interpretation regarding copyrights, I don't think I have ever come across the following situation:

Book is copyrighted in 1972. Is there any reason that would prevent someone from removing pages from this book (that they bought) and selling them separately? Wondering if this is legal prompted me to check the Copyright Act, and I only found reference that one can't copy/reproduce copyrighted works, leading me to assume that the person is within the law selling 'original' pages from the book without photocopying them first.

Before taking this any further, I thought I would check to see if there were any different opinions here.

Thanks for any input.
