bread maker cabinet

I have an old bread maker cabinet that belonged to my great great grandmother. I far as we can tell it is well over 100 years old. I am cleaning it up and leaving the original finish on it. The top though has a little rust on the edges of the porcelain top. What would be the best way to treat it and not ruin the original condition of it? I am not looking to make it look perfect since it is going in an old farm house and it looks like it belongs there the way it is.

Carefully scrub the rust off with some fine steel wool, then give the porcelain and bare areas a good coating of hard car wax to protect it.
