Because the foto looks askew. LOL
It is in the original Jenny Lind style, and is early, like 1845-1860.
Have no idea for value, but it could be a sleeper.

I agree with Casey on the age. It looks like it might be "real" mahogany (or possibly walnut) and the veneer on the shelf apron appears to bookmatched -- a sign of quality. This style is also sometimes called spool-turned or bobbin-turned. It's a lovely little piece. Do you own it or are you interested in buying it?
