 o
any antique linen collectors out there.

I've been to a few estate sales recently and have acquired some very nice linens. Would like to know more about them. If you can recommend a good book for beginners, with lots of pictures and references it would be appreciated. I have included a link to photobucket with pictures. If anyone has any input or expertise they want to share it would great. Need to know how to properly clean the linen pieces also. Thanks.

Was told this runner, placemats and napkins are Belgian.

Beautiful things!!!
I wish I could recommend a book...but I know of none...all I have learned I learned from people!
I think you are right as to country of origin etc....
As for stains...you need to soak for several days in Orvis soap and de ionized water....then rinse very carefully...test the rinse water with litmus paper etc......lay out to dry etc...
I have written detailed instructions...if only I can find them!!
Could you put your pictures in a kodak album with open access? It's a royal pain to copy and paste each picture into the address and then return for another.
How big is the big cloth? And how many placemats? What does the tag on the American piece say? Moygashel by any chance?

Joan Kiplinger is a weath of information on vintage and antique fabrics. She recommends sodium perborate for cleaning as well as products like PERK/Boost.

There is a vintage fabric email list which you might enjoy. I've learned tons of information there and the list could recommend good beginning learning books.

http://www.quiltropolis.net/maillists/maillistsdetail.asp?catid=Fabrics is the site to join the fabric list and just mark vintage fabric.

If you copy the address and put it in the optional link box beflow the message box, you can creat a link - makes it much easier to view the items.
