Need help with ID of Temple Lion

Hi,

My wife found a pair of odd temple lions (fu/foo dog) figurines at a flea market last weekend. They're heavy ceramic and about 12 inches in height. They look to me like chinthe lions from Burma/Myanmar but I'm really not sure.

What does the bottom look like?

 o
the bottom is just...

a thin leather pad that's glued to the bottom of the statuette. I'm somewhat tempted to peel it back and see if there are any markings underneath but I'm somewhat hesitant.

Well, what I can say, from what you have shown, is they are a depiction of the clinthe lion....and really nothing more....except that you say they are "ceramic".
I would carefully peel back that leather and see what else you can find....or just accept them for what they are....interesting big, red Asian fierce amimals, probably intended to be book ends.

Thanks Lindac!

That's pretty much what I'm thinking. I just couldn't find much information on them online, there's TONS of info about similar Chinese variations but finding anything about Burmese or Thai versions is difficult.

Thanks again,

Jay
