Prop Dolls

Back in the middle 50's, in San Francisco, as a child I use to go shopping on Market Street with my Mother. During our shopping trips, over the next few years, it was either in the City of Paris or the Emporium, I vividly recall seeing two soft-sculpture lady dolls with painted faces (rouge cheeks, dark eye lashes, bright pouty red lips, dressed in satin gowns and bonnets. They may have been called boudoir dolls. They weren't for sale, strictly used as props. Of course I was never allowed to touch them, but I was always mezmerized by their elegance.

I have thought about those dolls over the years, wondering where they originated from. Some might have considered them to be a bit gaudy, but not to my seven-year old eyes. Just reminiscing and wondering if anyone who shopped in SF during that era remembers seeing these dolls. I would like to research their origin but without a photo to post I know it would be difficult.
