the number on the back of ceramic plates !

What does the number on the back of the plates mean ?

I have one with the number 8 stamped on the back near the factory print.

And I also have others with numbers like : 41 , 58, 96 ...

The plates are supposevely made in the Wilhelmsburg (Austria) and Holohaza (Hungary) Factories.

Those numbers usually referred to the blank that was used.....the shape of the mold used to make it.
Often a painted number of letter referrs to the decorator or finisher.

yes that is true and sometimes numbers appearing on the back of ceramic pieces can be a clue or proof of their makers as some potteries used them and some never did.
