Ideas on shipping silver tea set

Posted by jill6718 (My Page) on

We have recently inherited some nice silver pieces (platters, flatware, tea set, etc) but they are half way across the country. Even though we will be traveling back a forth to settle things, now that the airlines search everything you check and are even worse about carry-on, we are wondering how to transport them back?

Has anyone had good luck with a particular carrier that has good insurance?
Any ideas? Thanks for any help.
Jill

Over the years, I've bought quite a large quantity of silver on ebay & most of it was shipped by Priority Mail or UPS - all without problems. For large items like platters & tea sets, UPS will probably be more practical.

I agree...pack it well...lots of bubble wrap and each piece in a separate box in another box....insure it and send it off!!

Thanks! I will probably look on some websites to get an idea as to value so we can insure them properly. I have just never shipped anything as valuable.
