help identify this crystal piece

Can someone help me with the "crystal balls" sitting on the ottoman in this picture? I'm trying to figure out what these are callled. I know there is a name other than "crystal ball" and was hoping someone here can help me with the name.

Also, any pointers on where to find these antique pieces would be great!

Best,

Thomas

Can't see well enough tos ee if they are hollow or solid, if they have a hole in them or not...
But tehre are such things as "crystal balls" which are solid clear and just decorative....unless you can see visions in them.

They are solid I believe, but you're right, it's hard to see for sure. I know there is another name though as I literally saw it on a blog somewhere this week, but forgot what it was. I figured the experts at Gardenweb could help me figure it out.

Best,

Thomas

Real crystal balls are solid rock crystal--these are glass (or maybe lead crystal). Try glass orbs as a search term.

Witchballs are usually hollow and hung from something.

And glass fish floats are hollow and not crystal.
Trust me they are called crystal balls.
Are you thinking of gazing balls? or magic crystal balls?

Didn't they use glass darning balls yrs ago? Need a closeup pic.

Yes they used glass darning eggs....but they were egg shaped....and all the glass ones I have seen were opaque, milky color with a handle.
