What is this 'Blanket Box'? Help needed

Posted by kimmieb (My Page) on

Can anyone tell me about this piece. I bought it in a small town in Louisiana at an "antique" shop about 20 years ago. I remember at the time the owner called it a blanket box said it was very old. It's been in my garage and I was thinking of selling it but, I want to find out more if I can from you guys before I get too hasty and give it away. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks.

Yes, it's a blanket chest. I have 3 of them. They're very common around here in SE Pennsylvania. I bought mine at public auctions.

I don't know what they sell for today since the antique business is so depressed.

I have one, which had it's original paint stripped by some previous owner. They're handy pieces of furniture and with the original paint, can be worth some decent money.

It's called a six-board chest after the material list to make one.
