Antique Linen Mats

Have a lot of antique lacy, linen mats - for the lack of a better word to describe them. They were used on the arms of chairs, on bureaus, and probably even on DR tables.. Some are circular, some are rectangular, all are pretty and in good shape. Not knowing what to do with them, I wonder if they can somehow be made into pillows. Any suggestions are welcome. Thank you.

I saw a pretty lampshade in a craft shop yesterday that was covered with mats. The maker had got a (presumably cheap) plain white shade a little smaller than the finished product, then glued the mats on with thinned PVA glue, leaving some sticking out at the top (with glue to make it dry stiff) in a sort of "chimney" shape, and hanging down below the bottom edge to make a scalloped edge.
Friends I was with also admired it and we quizzed the shop owner on the making of it as one lady wanted to make one herself.

They are called antimacassers...Maybe if you googled craft projects with that term..They are still sold on ebay...I think pillows would be a great way to use them..

I've seen them sewn together at the edges in a patchwork or appliqued onto a cloth to make table runners and curtains.
