Please help me identify what this oriental wood jar/urn is

Does anyone know what this is and what it's used for? Also, any idea when and where it might have been made? In the picture on the left, you can see a stopper that fits into the top hole of the jar (center), and on the far right is the top that fits onto the jar.
Thanks.

Please tell me if there is any metal part on this, and also what are those things sticking out of the rim? Good descriptions help and one cannot tell these things by a photograph. I suspect I do know what it is, but it depends on your answer.

There is metal around the rim (the piece with the 3 things sticking out is removeable). There is also metal on the tops of the stopper and the very top handle. I believe the three "sticks" are made of plastic, but I could be wrong. Thanks.
