We had this same post a year ago. If I remember right, it was a painting, inspired by a famous painting, but not an exact copy. I don't think any identification of the artist was ever accomplished.

This is a copy/detail (i.e. piece of a larger work) of the 12 year old Christ by Heinrich Hofmann entitled "Christ in the Temple among the Doctors".

Truth be told, this painting - which I believe was found in a church basement according to the earlier thread - could have been done by ANYONE with a brush and modicum of talent. If the thing isn't signed, you'll probably never know. Art has been heavily copied over the centuries by a variety of persons, amateur and otherwise, for a variety of reasons.

I'm not an art historian, but this was probably either done by a grateful adherent as a gift to a minister/church or even be a European tour souvenir.
