I need help identifying this item from an estate sale. It is not cast iron and I'm having a difficult time finding a similar one anywhere on the Internet....anyone seen this before?
Thanks

Roman "Biga" ... 2-horse racing chariot

It could be a tourist souvenier, it could be the real thing.

Okay, thanks, do you have any idea on what it is made of? I guess I'll see whether it is still worth researching once I can get an idea on a value if it was real.

If it were a real, legitimate Roman artifact ... several hundred dollars even without any provenance.

I can't tell what it's made of without handling it.

okay, thanks very much. I'll keep looking for a similar one until I get a chance to take it to a dealer.

Still need help on this one, haven't had time to take it to a dealer. Any new folks want to chime in. Thanks to Lazygardens, I now know it is a Roman Biga two horse chariot. I'm curious as to why I can't find anything close to it anywhere on the Internet.

Thanks!.

If it is the real deal, the patina color is that of a copper based metal such as bronze. Do not remove the patina; it is part of the value.

Judging from the pose of the driver, at one time, there may have been reins in his hands running to the horses' mouths.

Yes it appear he did have reins. Still haven't found a similar one anywhere,,,,will keep looking. I won't attempt to clean it up just in case.

This couldn't just be a souvenir could it? I bought it at an estate sale with other nice stuff....but just wondering.

It could be: you see cast bronze ones in roman tourist shops, of varying quality.
