| Part of a three-piece parlor set circa 1905? The primary wood is usually maple, and there is some "genuine mahogany veneer" at the crest rails, all stained the blood-red shade so popular at the time. The other pieces would have been a settee and a rocking chair, perhaps a "platform" type. Casey |

| It's probably maple with a very red stain, from about the turn of the 20th century. Very likely it was one of a set...perhaps part of a parlor set consisting of a settee, ladies chair and gentleman's chair...or maybe just one of a pair. The carving is variously knows as "old North Wind" Or "Old Man of the North" and appears very often on furniture fro0m the last 19th century and early 20th. It has springs in the seat and perhaps that pillow head rest is veneer. It will be easy to re-do....but you will never EVER get all that reds tain out....so might as well not try, just restain a nice mahogany. Nice chair! Linda C |
