I just received my mother's bedroom set which, at a guess, is circa 1940s. It is oak veneer, and has spent the last 20 years in a house full of smokers. Does anyone have any ideas on 1. getting the smell out and 2. general but thorough cleaning of the sealed and unsealed areas?

Also, any ideas where I could get confirmation on when they were made? I am not really concerned with value, as it is family and won't be sold, but am curious.
