Antique School Desk

I have placed a photo in the Photo Galary titled Antique School Desk. I would appreciate any information than can be shared about this desk. It is very unusual, one piece, all wood (except for the heavy iron hinges that holds the lift top desk onto the base, and a brass covered ink well. The chair is stationary on the rails and the desk slides forward on it's base to allow access to the seat. A paper rack is on the front of the desk. Can anyone identify the make, year or period? I bought this desk 23 years ago for my son. Thanks

Looks to me like a one of a kind thing, something that a person made for a specific use.
I am thinking of someone pergaps someone who homeschooled havings everal of these made for their "classroom".
I have never seen one like it.

It has that 70s rounded corner feel, I think. It looks like it might have started as part of an older school desk, and then got converted in the home wood-shop. My dad would have built something like this.

I went to a country school that had these sorts of older wood desks, but they usually had metal bases.

Doesn't look like any I've seen either, and I am sure I sat at the same desks my father did. Ours were not nearly as boxy looking, large and of course we had metal runners. Ours also did not slide to accommodate anyone or anything. If you happened to be tall or heavy, tough.
