Rocking Chair

Does anyone know anything about the chair in the picture. It has no identifying manufacturer tag. I know it is quite old, and it is in excellent shape. I am not even sure what kind of wood it is. Anything you can tell ,me about it would be great. Value?

RE: Rocking Chair

The elaborate pressed wood back is usually 1880s-1910 or so. Instead of carving, they used large hydraulic presses to imprint the design.

Value? It depends on where you are, because it depends on local demand for them.

RE: Rocking Chair

It is oak, and looks like it retains its original finish. Do not strip it!
