Squarish knobs in a shallow pyramidal shape.

Any cabinet knob vendor would have them.

Thats what I wanted to do at first-- but whatever knobs were originally on this piece had a round base on them-- Which makes me wonder what kind of round base knob would look "correct" on this piece?

A ni9ce rounded oak knob ...

Check Van Dyke's Restorers -- www.vandykes.com. They have a lot of wooden knobs -- I don't know if they carry the doweled ones, though.
