USA Pottery

I just bought a teapot at a sale and on the bottom it just had "U S A". I was wondering if this was a company like McCoy that used that logo.

Some other items like vases also had that logo on the bottom.

When it became the law that wares must be marked with the country of origin....about 1920 and after....many potteries marked with a simple USA. ome of the potteries were mcAoy, Roseville and Watts as well as others I am sure.

You will not always find U.S.A. marks on American Pottery made after 1930. Sometimes you will not find a country of origin mark on foreign pottery made after that date, either. It depends of whether the items were subjected to possible export. Domestic pottery products not intended for export didn't require them, however, some potteries were proud to pronounce they were domestically made and put it on them anyhow. Ditto pottery items brought over from foreign countries as personal possessions and circumventing the importation process.

I have some fairly recent McCoy pieces without them, and also some Japanese pieces with no country of origin since they were purchased in Japan and not intended for export.

That law was enacted as a 'right to know' measure so that American consumers could have a choice at time of purchase and buy domestically if they wished.

Thanks, I thought it was one of those potteries that made it.
