Need help ID'ing an an old desk

My wife was given an old desk after Katrina in Uptown NOLA...

It is labeled on the back "Matthews Meir, Inc. NO LA

I have come to a dead end online...

Below is a link to the photos of the desk, it is structurally rock solid.

It looks like a deco moderne desk, probably from the 1930s. The pulls don't look quite right to me. The veneer appears to be in really sorry shape: if you like it, you can fix it up, but it probably has very little value. It could be interesting to keep as a survivor of the hurricane.
